Component 1- Through coordinated efforts with specialized partners, advocates, and invested stakeholders, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will address the need to obtain weighted Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and School Health Profiles (Profiles) data and institutionalize the use of YRBS and Profiles in local policy and program development. Component 2- Due to the high rates of HIV and other STIs in Broward County, BCPS is committed to educating its youth about HIV/AIDS, STIs and unintended pregnancy prevention. It is the District's belief that by educating Broward youth, both in school and in the community, the District can help reduce HIV and other STIs among adolescents and reduce disparities in HIV infection and other STIs experienced by specific adolescent sup-populations. Through coordinated efforts with specialized partners, advocates, and invested stakeholders, BCPS will address the need to reduce health disparities among adolescent youth to reduce HIV and STI infections. The use of YRBS and Profiles data sources will guide prevention and intervention efforts strategically designed to affect all youth, but particularly targeting youth at disproportionate risk on every level, as they relate to sexual health education (SHE), sexual health services (SHS), and maintaining safe and supportive environments (SSE). Eleven priority high schools will be the focus of this project. Through a peer-to-peer education model, the 21,000 students attending the priority high schools will each be encouraged to share their increased sexual health education and sexual health services knowledge with two middle school students. Sexual health program dispersion across the District will be data-informed and student-led.
