Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) proposes to implement a Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Project to build the capacity of LEA funded under Component 2 strengthen the effectiveness of their initiatives to create safe and supportive environments RFA PS-18-1807, Component 3 C. The proposed project will use a tiered-plan to build the capacity appropriate to the needs of each LEA that includes technical assistance, specialized capacity building, and intensive program implementation support. Capacity building will be planned and delivered based on a comprehensive assessment of training and technical assistance needs of funded LEAs. CHLA will provide staff of LEA funded for Component 2 to professional development, training, and technical assistance on implementing the required activities. CHLA will work with CDC to collect and disseminate success stories to highlight the progress made by Component 2 partners. CHLA has the experience, expertise and capacity to implement the proposed project based on its experience as a direct service provider of HIV, STD, teen pregnancy, and substance abuse prevention and intervention services in clinic, community, and school based settings; its track record of developing and evaluating services for LGBT populations; its expertise training a broad range of professionals including school faculty and staff and school- based health care providers; and its history providing capacity building locally and nationally around sexual health, safe and supportive environments, trauma, coalition building and community mobilization, and positive youth development. In addition to its team of skilled project staff members and named subject matter experts, CHLA leverages a broad range of health professionals that will lend their expertise in other related topics, as needed.
