The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), administered for the past 20 years, and the School Health Profiles (Profiles), administered for the past 14 years, have been two of the main data sources informing school health programs. Many partners throughout the state use these data sources to drive health programs and policies. A School Health Data Team made up of various partners assisted in the development of the YRBS questionnaires and provided input on dissemination of the data. Collaborations among these partners ensured weighted Kentucky YRBS and Profiles data since 2009.
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) will monitor health-risk behaviors of youth and the implementation of school health programs through the collection of YRBS and Profiles. These data sources provide audiences with the best understanding of health-risk behaviors in Kentucky’s youth, and the programs and policies that are in place in schools to support and address the needs of youth. The results of the YRBS and Profiles support the development of policies and practices to reduce priority health-risk behaviors among youth.
