COMPONENT 1: SCHOOL-BASED SURVEILLANCE: The purpose of the application is to administer the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and the Profiles survey to strengthen systematic procedures to monitor critical health-related behaviors among high school students and policies in schools in the the School District of Palm Beach County. The SDPBC has administered the YRBS in a census format in both middle schools (grades 7-8) and high schools since 1997 and has received weighted data since 1999. The outcome for this project is to obtain weighted data for the YRBS and weighted data for the Profiles Principal and Lead Health Teacher Surveys.
COMPONENT 2: SCHOOL-BASED HIV/STD PREVENTION: Palm Beach County epidemiological and social determinants of health data suggest cause to be concerned about HIV/STD and unintended pregnancy risk among its youth. The purpose of the application of the School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC) is to improve the health and well-being of the youth of Palm Beach County and prepare them to be healthy adults. The outcomes for this project shall be to decrease sexual risk behaviors among adolescents, increase use of condoms and highly effective contraception methods among sexually active adolescents, and increase adolescents’ access to key sexual health services and Safe and Supportive Environment; 31,322 students will be served in Priority schools.
