The Office of the State Superintendent of Education of the District of Columbia (OSSE) will leverage its existing infrastructure to enhance data collection, analysis, and application of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) over the next five years. Since 2012, OSSE has overseen YRBS administration, making updates to align stakeholder needs, including new data elements, methodology, and outreach efforts. Over the next five years and three YRBS data collection cycles, OSSE will: 1) coordinate survey design and collection with a new city-wide school climate survey; 2) ensure high-quality data collection efforts and survey administration; 3) use YRBS data, aligned with climate data, to track trends of, and inform interventions for, key health and education priorities (mental health, chronic absenteeism, and sexual health); 4) increase stakeholders’ understanding of short- and long-term trends in youth risk behaviors and experiences and school health policies and practices; 5) Increase application of YRBS data by stakeholders to inform policy, program, and fiscal decisions that impact DC youth. OSSE will also engage in coordinated and strategic outreach and stakeholder engagement to disseminate YRBS findings. OSSE will evaluate YRBS administration and outreach efforts to improve data collection and dissemination through the five-year project period.
