Adolescents in Nevada experience disproportionately high rates of poor behavioral health outcomes and the state relies heavily on the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and Health Profiles (Profiles) data to guide health programs and policies. Ten years ago, a collaborative relationship between the Nevada State Department of Education, the Nevada State Division of Public and Behavioral Health, and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health was established to implement the YRBS. CDC-funding for school-based surveillance was augmented by state funding and in-kind support to all for the collection of YRBS data in all high schools, middle schools, and tribal schools and Profiles data in all high schools and middle schools. Weighted data were obtained every survey year and results were broadly disseminated to school districts, community coalitions, planning groups, and non-profit agencies throughout the state. In response to CDC-RFA-DP-24-0139, the University of Nevada, School of Public Health is applying for funding through Component 3: State, territorial, and tribal school-based surveillance. Continued funding through CDC-RFA-DP-24-0139 will allow us to strengthen our collaboration to obtain weighted YRBS (odd years) and Profiles (even years) data for Nevada and disseminate the results through a variety of modalities. At the end of the five year grant period, this will lead to increased understanding of short-term trends in youth risk behaviors and experiences and school health policies and practices.
