The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) mission is in direct alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s What Works in Schools goals of, “improving health education, connecting young people to health services they need and making school environments safer and more supportive.” NYSED is seeking support to continue the administration of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and School Health Profiles Survey (Profiles). Through the administration of the YRBS and Profiles, NYSED and our contracted technical assistance center, the New York State Center for School Health (NYSCSH), can continue to assess the needs of adolescents. The results will be used to improve adolescent health, track behaviors and experiences over time, and understand the impact of programs and policies. Our partners, the New York State Department of Health’s AIDS Institute, the New York State Office of Mental Health, and the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports will continue in coordinated survey efforts, including extensive dissemination of valid and reliable data across the State. We will remain focused on promoting and supporting data driven decision making for youth health and wellness programs utilizing the information provided by the YRBS and Profiles to respond and develop focused resources. With the help of our partners, NYSED and the NYSCSH will reach a larger audience, with which the developed resources can be shared. NYSED and the NYSCSH have had many years of success in attaining weighted results that have positively impacted the youth of NYS and with renewed funding we will continue to do so.
