Project VIVE will provide comprehensive, high-impact HIV prevention services to Latino men who have sex with other men (LMSM) and Latina Transgender women, ages 18 and over in Houston, Texas. - Project Abstract Summary Fundación Latinoamericana de Accion Social (Latin American Foundation for Social Action), also known as FLAS, of Houston, TX, proposes to create Project VIVE which will provide comprehensive, high-impact HIV prevention services to Latino men who have sex with other men (LMSM) and Latina Transgender women, ages 18 and over, who have sex with men. The Latino population in the Greater Houston Area, accounts for 29% of all HIV/AIDS cases. In 55% of these cases, the mode of transmission is MSM sexual contact. Similarly, it is also estimated that 14% of Transgender individuals have been exposed to HIV. FLAS’ Project VIVE will focus specifically on the Gulfton (zip code 77081), Sharpstown (77036), and Westwood (77036, 77074, 77099) areas of southwest (SW) Houston, with Latino populations of 72%, 60% and 68%, respectively. These three areas were selected as the target areas because of their substantially larger numbers of Spanish speaking Latino populations, higher rates of HIV exposure, lower educational and health literacy levels, higher numbers of foreign-born residents, higher rates of poverty, lower median incomes, and high rates of people without health insurance compared to the surrounding areas and populations. SW Houston has the highest concentration of recent immigrant families from Mexico and Central America who have settled in the Greater Houston Area. Project VIVE Outcomes: • Increased number of Latino MSM (LMSM) and Latino Transgender women who are aware of their HIV status. • Increased receipt of integrated screenings by LMSM and Latino Transgender women. • Increased receipt of HIV medical care and ART among LMSM and Latino Transgender women with newly diagnosed with HIV. • Increased receipt of HIV medical care and ART among LMSM and Latino Transgender women with previously diagnosed HIV who are not in care. • Increased medication adherence among LMSM and Latino Transgender women with HIV. • Increased access to partner services for LMSM and Latino Transgender women. • Increased access to essential support services among LMSM and Latino Transgender women with HIV. • Increased access to PrEP for HIV-negative LMSM and Latino Transgender women. • Increased access to nPEP for HIV-negative LMSM and Latino Transgender women. • Increased availability of condoms for LMSM and Latino Transgender persons. • Increased receipt of evidence-based risk-reduction behavioral interventions for LMSM and Latino Transgender women. • Increased access to essential support services for HIV-negative LMSM and Latino Transgender women. • Increased Health Department and Latino community engagement for cluster detection and response and improved response to HIV transmission clusters and outbreaks within the Latino community of Houston.
