Funding provide opportunity for OMCFH to build and improve the Maternal Mortaility Review Panel work by hiring a coordinator to oversee and organize the work. Would also allow building partnerships fo - As the Social Security Act (SSA) State Title V agency, the West Virginia Department of Health (DH) Bureau for Public Health (BPH) Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health (OMCFH) involves multiple stakeholders across West Virginia to develop and support data driven interventions. The West Virginia Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) will improve data quality that identifies and characterizes pregnancy-related deaths and address health inequities. This will be accomplished through expansion of the capacity of the MMRC to develop and implement new data-informed strategies to prevent pregnancy-related deaths and reduce disparities among impacted populations. This project will increase the MMRC’s capacity to make recommendations to address preventable pregnancy-related deaths and increase the availability of this data. Therefore, OMCFH is applying for Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality funding opportunity focusing on enhancing the capacity of the MMRC to address preventable pregnancy-related deaths and increase the availability of this data, particularly for populations disproportionally impacted. Multi-sector collaborations and strong partnerships between the OMCFH, the West Virginia Health Statistics Center (HSC), the Department of Human Resources (DHR) Bureau for Medical Services (BMS) (State Medicaid agency), the DHR Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH) (federally designated state authority for mental health and substance use disorder (SUD), the DHR Bureau for Social Services (BSS) (designated state entity responsible for extending and improving child welfare services), the West Virginia Health Information Network (WVHIN) Health Information Exchange (HIE), and the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy (BOP) will enable the MMRC project to drive state-level outcomes. Throughout this project the MMRC will partner with OMCFH Programs, the DHR BBH, and the West Virginia Perinatal Partnership, the Statewide Perinatal Quality Collaborative, to use data from this project to develop targeted recommendations for prevention. This project will allow OMCFH to establish a robust review and reporting system that provides timely data to inform the programs and partnership planning to improve the health of West Virginia.
