Preventing Maternal Deaths: Supporting a Maternal Mortality Review Committee in Nevada - The Nevada Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) conducts ongoing, comprehensive, multidisciplinary reviews of maternal deaths and reviews incidences of severe maternal morbidity (SMM). MMRC actions help determine factors contributing to maternal mortality and SMM and identify public health and clinical interventions to improve systems of care and prevent mortality and morbidity. This funding will support the sustainability of Nevada’s MMRC to identify and characterize maternal deaths and SMM with the goal of identifying prevention opportunities both at the clinical and non-clinical level. This grant will support the CDC’s national approach to collecting and sharing data on pregnancy-associated and pregnancy-related deaths and SMM. These reviews help facilitate an understanding of the drivers of maternal mortality and complications of pregnancy and associated disparities in Nevada; determine what interventions at patient, provider, facility, system, and community levels will have the most impact; and implement initiatives in the right places for families and communities who need them most. The following short-term outcomes are expected to be achieved by the end of the period of performance: 1. Increased timeliness, accuracy, and standardization of information available about pregnancy-related deaths, including MMRC identified opportunities for prevention. 2. Increased engagement and cooperation between MMRC’s, partners, and communities to communicate information from data on pregnancy-related deaths. 3. Increased availability of MMRC recommendations among communities, clinicians, public health practitioners, and decision makers. The following intermediate outcome is expected to be achieved by the end of the period of performance as a result of short-term outcomes: 4. Increased adoption of clinical and non-clinical policies and programs that reflect the highest standards of care. 5. Increased implementation of recommendations that reach or consider the needs of populations disproportionately affected by pregnancy-related mortality. The following long-term outcome is expected to be achieved as a result of the intermediate outcome: 6. Reduced maternal complications of pregnancy during pregnancy and in the year after the end of pregnancy. 7. Eliminated disparities in complications of pregnancy during pregnancy and in the year after the end of the pregnancy. 8. Improved population health maternal health outcomes Eliminated preventable pregnancy related deaths.
