Nevada SUID/SDY Case Registry and Prevention Project - The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is submitting an application for all three elements of the notice of funding opportunity CDC-RFA-DP-23-0006 - Component A: sudden/unexpected infant death (children ages 0 – 365 days), Component B: sudden death in youth (children ages 0-18 years), and Component C: community participatory, data-driven SUID prevention strategies based on American Academy of Pediatrics guidance. These efforts will support improved case registry data collection and use of data for prevention recommendations, as well as prevention efforts for Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) through culturally responsible community engagement. This application is in close partnership with the Clark County Nevada Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner, and the Washoe County Nevada Regional Medical Examiner's Office. In addition, the application and planned efforts will integrate fully with efforts of the State and local Child Death Review Teams and include expansion and redevelopment of the Advanced Review team for analysis and recommendations on interventions and prevention activities to prevent future preventable deaths. SNHD is a special district government, and is the public health authority for Clark County, Nevada. Clark County is home to over 2.2 million residents and holds more than 73% of the population of the state of Nevada. The efforts outlined in the application seek to improve and expand on data capture and engagement of families who have experienced a sudden unexpected infant death, or the sudden death of a child, with a particular focus on improved understanding of any racial and ethnic disparities in families experiencing such losses. SNHD is well positioned to fully execute on all components of this application, due to access to vital records, local hospital data, a robust epidemiology and informatics department, extensive health education resources, and strong community relationships, with a focus on health equity and engagement of communities disproportionately impacted by a variety of health issues. Component C of the application will use the health education resources of the agency to reach out to impacted communities with culturally appropriate information to prevent future loss of our community's children.
