National Partnerships to Promote Cancer Surveillance Standards and Support Data Quality and Operations of National Program of Cancer Registries - CDC-RFA-DP-23-0008 National Partnerships to Promote Cancer Surveillance Standards and Support Data Quality and Operations of National Program of Cancer Registries (Component 2) Project Abstract Summary The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC), a program of the American College of Surgeons, is dedicated to improving the quality of cancer care through the development of evidence-based cancer staging. The AJCC is the leading authority on cancer staging and is responsible for the development of the AJCC Cancer Staging Protocols, which are used by cancer registries and clinicians worldwide to stage cancer patients. The AJCC provides expert consensus guidance on the staging, classification, and treatment of cancer. The AJCC is committed to improving the quality of cancer care and believes that its expertise in cancer staging and care quality make it well suited for Component 2 of the cooperative agreement. The AJCC is committed to working with NPCR registries and other stakeholders to improve the quality, timeliness, and completeness of NPCR data. The AJCC is confident that this work will lead to better outcomes for cancer patients. Project Purpose: The AJCC will work with NPCR and other stakeholders to develop, implement and promote uniform cancer data surveillance standards and interoperability. This will support NPCR operations, including efficiency of data collecting and exchange and enhanced capacity and flexibility to meet new data needs. The AJCC will also coordinate the development and implementation of Dynamic Link Library (DLL)with other cancer surveillance partners so that high-quality, complete, and timely cancer data is available to inform efforts to decrease cancer incidence, morbidity, and mortality and reduce disparities in cancer care and survival. Project Outcomes: The expected outcomes of this project are: • Increased collaboration and communication among cancer reporting sources, NPCR registries, and stakeholders in cancer surveillance. • Improve change management process for population-based cancer data item development, collection, and registry operations. • Increase knowledge of NPCR registries and reporters on cancer data informatics and modernization and its application to population-based cancer surveillance. • Improved interoperability of NPCR software with cancer staging, quality, and EHR data.
