Project Abstract This five-year Component B proposal aims to improve our nation’s ability to respond to the growing prevalence of dementia among racial and ethnic minorities by (1) empirically identifying, quickly adapting and disseminating tailored messages to minority-serving providers and their communities to increase awareness of cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) as public health issues among Latinos and African Americans and by (2) identifying and addressing critical gaps that exist in communications and tools for minority serving providers to improve their ability to respond to cognitive impairment and ADRD. These aims will be advanced by establishing a Center for Brain Health Equity to serve as a coordinating body for the development, adaptation, and dissemination of culturally tailored brain health and ADRD communications and tools that recognize health literacy levels of minority populations, the providers that serve them, and the community and faith-based organizations that support them. Leveraging this diverse network of partners, the project will deliver the following outcomes related to the implementation of the Healthy Brain Road Map: Assure a Competent Workforce -Minority-serving providers will increase their knowledge of cognitive impairment and ADRD as public health issues by 25% during the project period. Educate and Empower -50,000 minority serving providers will be reached with culturally tailored brain health communications to use in their education of Latino and African American patients and community members. -450,000 Latino and African American community members will receive population-focused communications about cognitive impairment, brain health, and ADRD through community education and traditional and digital media across a range of geographies. Develop Policies and Mobilize Partnerships -Minority-serving provider associations will increase the adoption of policy and guidelines to support their members related to cognitive impairment, brain health, and ADRD.
