The North American Quitline Consortium (NAQC) will provide technical assistance to state tobacco control programs (including quitlines), CDC and national and state partners. The technical assistance and training will focus on 1) quitline operations, best practices for maximizing the reach and impact of quitlines, and strategies for sustaining quitlines; and 2) evaluating the impact of quitline initiatives and policies that relate to the provision of cessation services through quitlines. Key topics that will be addressed include best and promising practices for quitline operations, reaching priority populations, improving referral programs (including eReferral), cost-sharing partnerships, cost-sharing strategies for Medicaid, reducing intake questions, methods for measuring utilization of quitline services, ways for states to leverage national initiatives, and new protocols for youth cessation and vaping cessation. This project is designed to impact two outcomes: • In the short-term, increase knowledge among state quitlines of strategies to increase their capacity, reach, impact and sustainability; and • In the intermediate term, increase adoption of strategies to improve and sustain quitline services. Over the long-term, we expect this project will lead to increased capacity, reach, utilization, impact and sustainability of state quitlines. For tobacco users, we expect the long-term outcomes will be increased quit attempts, increased cessation of tobacco as early in life as possible, decreased tobacco use prevalence and consumption, and decreased disparities in tobacco cessation and tobacco use.
