The American Lung Association is pleased to submit this application for funding for its Providing Technical Assistance to Increase Tobacco Cessation project. By applying proven strategies to increase and improve tobacco cessation treatment integration into health systems, the project will contribute to significantly reducing the harms caused by tobacco use in the United States. By targeting state tobacco control programs, national partners and health systems with proven technical assistance strategies and training on integrating proven tobacco treatment strategies into health systems policies, work flow, and routine care; the American Lung Association will increase the number of tobacco users who are referred to tobacco treatment interventions as called for in the narrative of this funding opportunity announcement. The American Lung Association has a strong track record of carrying out similar, successful projects in the areas of tobacco control and public health. The organization has a strong nationwide network of lung health professionals, leadership experience in cessation intervention and policy. Its demonstrated experience and accomplishment in fiscal and programmatic management of major federal grants and project implementation strongly position the Lung Association for success in implementing the proposed project.
