The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) is applying for the Preventing Maternal Death Funding Opportunity in the amount of $150,000.00 per year. This 5-year cooperative agreement will support the Child Death Review Commission to coordinate and manage Maternal Mortality Review Committees to identify and characterize maternal deaths for identifying prevention opportunities. Recipients will identify pregnancy-associated deaths within one year of death; abstract and enter clinical and non-clinical data into a standardized data system [Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA)], conduct multidisciplinary reviews, and enter committee decisions in MMRIA within 2 years of death. Quality assurance processes, in partnership with CDC, will be used for improving data quality, completeness, and timeliness through the Division of Public Health and the Child Death Review Commission. Recipients and the CDC will analyze data and share findings with stakeholders to inform policy and prevention strategies to reduce maternal deaths. This data will also be utilized for program planning and evaluation at the State level, and will help to improve public health outcomes in the maternal and child population in accordance with Title V performance measures and Healthy People 2020. In addition, a close partnership with the Delaware Perinatal Quality Collaborative will continue to impact the morbidity and mortality of pregnant women. This funding will support the elimination of preventable maternal deaths by: • Facilitating an understanding of the drivers of maternal mortality and complications of pregnancy and associated disparities; • Determining what interventions at patient, provider, facility, system and community levels will have the most impact; and • Identifying initiatives for implementation in the right places for families and communities who need them most.
