As the leading, nationwide, voluntary health organization focused on cancer, the American Cancer Society (ACS) is well-positioned to design and deliver technical assistance and training to the states, tribes, territories and Pacific Island Jurisdictions who receive funding from the CDC National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (NCCCP) and their comprehensive cancer control coalitions (coalitions) to advance their shared goals of improving cancer outcomes and reducing cancer-related mortality. Purpose: With over 20 years of experience in comprehensive cancer control (CCC), the ACS aims to build the capacity of the NCCCP grant recipients and their coalitions to implement policy, systems and environmental (PSE) change approaches and evidence-based and promising practices in cancer prevention, diagnostic follow-up, and survivorship. ACS will leverage its internal expertise and resources and build on its strong foundational relationships with the Comprehensive Cancer Control National Partnership (CCCNP) and the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) to enhance the technical assistance and training (TAT) provided. Intermediate outcomes: • Policy Change: Increased policies and systems that promote healthy lifestyle behaviors, high-quality cancer screening, and lifestyle programs for survivors. • Community Change: Increased evidence-based lifestyle and wellness survivorship programs. Long-term outcomes: • Increased health seeking and healthy lifestyle behaviors among general population. • Increased early detection of cancer. • Improved survivorship practices. The project’s core strategies and activities include: 1) conduct yearly comprehensive needs assessments of NCCCP recipients, 2) identify a process to build program capacity in NCCCP recipients, 3) coordinate and collaborate with existing partnership networks, 4) develop a TAT plan designed to build capacity and knowledge among NCCCP grantees and their coalitions, 5a) implement the TAT plan by disseminating and conducting training resources and opportunities to cover specific topic and skill-related needs, 5b) conduct performance monitoring and continuous quality improvement (CQI) of the TAT plan and 6) conduct a comprehensive evaluation. ACS is confident in our ability to deliver an effective TAT program that leverages resources and subject matter expertise from national partners, including the CCCNP and the NCCRT, to the 66 NCCCP recipients and their coalitions. The TAT program, which will be informed by needs assessment findings and built on an evidence-informed framework, will: 1) enhance programs’ organizational capacity, 2) support implementation of evidence-based interventions, and 3) assist in and measure achievement of program outcomes. The number provided below in the estimated number of people served field reflects the total number of NCCCP recipients served (66 NCCCP recipients), not people served.
