NAACCR is applying for Component 1 of National Partnerships to Promote Cancer Surveillance Standards and Support Data Quality and Operations of National Program of Cancer Registries, Education, Standards, and Translation. The North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) will work collaboratively with the NPCR leadership to enhance and improve cancer surveillance data collected by the NPCR program through the development and dissemination of uniform data standards and best practices for data collection and data reporting. NAACCR will convene panels of cancer surveillance partners and subject matter experts to accomplish these tasks. NAACCR will monitor the completeness, timeliness, and quality of cancer data collected by each NPCR funded registry through the continuation of NAACCR’s independent, objective certification program and with data provided by NPCR and other sources. Educational and data assessments will identify training needs and educational programs will be developed for NPCR Education and Training Coordinators (ETCs) to address any critical deficiencies. NAACCR will work with NPCR and the other component partners to produce the following outcomes: • Enhance standards and operations for collection and reporting of cancer surveillance data by using the NAACCR committee structure to develop, and document new data standards. NAACCR will produce updates to NAACCR Volume II: Data Standards and Data Dictionary. (See https://www.naaccr.org/data-standards-data-dictionary/) as needed and post on our website. • Increase timeliness completeness and quality of data reported to NPCR registries through the development of standards, production of implementation guides and edits; development of operational guidelines (best practices); and continuation of the NAACCR Certification program which objectively measures these elements. • Increase the competency of NPCR registry staff, particularly the ETCs by providing targeted programs and periodic in-person education and training, and evaluating the effectiveness of such training. • Work with partners to improve the interoperability of NPCR software with AJCC TNM cancer staging systems and increase electronic submission of laboratories data into NPCR registries. Ultimately we anticipate that these measures will reduce the cancer death rates in the United States and improve the integration of public health data sources to support data-driven decisions by providers and state health departments.
