In addition to maintaining and growing existing collaborations to enhance cancer reporting and registry operations, CAP proposes to accelerate the development of technical solutions such as Structured Data Capture (SDC), and the development and publication of the latest data entry content guidelines. These guidelines (CAP Cancer and Biomarker Protocols) cover clinical and registry reporting for anatomic pathology, biomarker and genomic findings, using CAP’s growing electronic Cancer Checklist (eCC) model, which will be released in SDC XML format for 2019 and beyond. We will continue our close work with NAACCR, especially in the development of new and modernized Site-Specific Data Items (SSDIs) and the updating of transmission standards in a variety of old and new formats such as NAACCR flat file, NAACCR Volume V (HL7 2.5.1 format), and NAACCR XML as needed, but with a special emphasis on transmission formats compatible with SDC. We will continue to work with CDC and AJCC on creating auto-staging forms for clinical and registry use. To encourage adoption of new content and technical solutions, we will work with NPCR, NAACCR, AJCC, CAP leadership, state registries, government entities and our other collaborators to maximize uptake, and to increase the awareness of and cooperation with NPCR in achieving the stated project goals “to support activities to develop, disseminate, implement, and enhance data standards and best practices for improved operations of cancer registries in the United States.”
