The Screening For Life (SFL) Program is a part of Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital(SSMH), located in Barrow, Alaska, and is responsible for the management of programs that promote cancer prevention and early detection. Due to our region's large percentage of Alaska Native residents, the remote location, and lack of medical facilities, SFL is an excellent position to reach the underserved by offering screening, providing funds for transportation and housing, and by traveling to villages and around our community to provide education. We provide education regarding healthy lifestyle choices to prevent cancer, and emphasize the importance of screening and vaccinations. We plan to increase patient outreach regarding cancer prevention with a focus on overall health and wellness. Our primary outcome is to decrease cancer morbidity and mortality in the target population by increasing cancer detection, diagnosis, and referral to treatment services.
