SPIPA Native Women's Wellness Project SPIPA Comprehensive Cancer Control Project - The purpose of the South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency (hereafter SPIPA) cancer programs is to reduce the morbidity and mortality from cancer within the communities of the Chehalis, Nisqually, Skokomish, Squaxin Island, and Shoalwater Bay Tribes through the facilitation of cancer control, prevention, awareness and support activities which include the leveraging of resources and the development partnerships to ensure that cancer risks are reduced, cancer is detected early, and the disparities in the incidence of cancer within American Indian and Alaska Native communities are eliminated.The SPIPA NWWP (NBCCEDP) has primary prevention focus of reducing cancers by increasing access to screening mammography service, cervical cancer screenings and well women visits for all underserved women within the Tribal communities. Focusing on women in the target age range to receive screening mammograms, Patient Navigators at each of the five Tribal clinics coordinate with mobile mammography services and schedule dates for community screening days. These mammogram clinics also serve as an education opportunity for other cancer screening and prevention by sharing culturally appropriate media showcasing the risk factors and resources available.The SPIPA CCCP will prevent cancer deaths across the total population by focusing on its annual objectives. Smoking cessation education will help reduce risk for lung cancers. The program will improve systems to promote quality cancer screening by providing annual cultural competency training with Subject Matter Experts ( SME's). Patient Navigators will be used to increase access for quality and timely care for breast, cervical and colorectal screenings. Obesity prevention messaging be increased to prevent all cancer types, increase awareness, knowledge, and abilities among target populations, as well as promote health equity.The SPIPA CCCP Survivorship supplement will support cancer survivors in the target populat ion through culturally relevant survivorship plans. These plans will empower individuals with information about their health history, tools and resources for follow up care and information that encourages improving the lifestyle factors that are known to contribute to the disease.The COVID pandemic has been a barrier to the project and communities served. SPIPA will continue to adapt to the limitations, while focusing on reducing cancer morbidity and mortality. A comprehensive evaluation plan will be developed to assess the extent to which proposed strategies and activities are successfully implemented, to demonstrate if activities lead to expected outputs and outcomes, and to inform future program planning, decision making and continuous quality improvement.
