The mission of the Oklahoma Tuberculosis (TB) Program is to eliminate TB in Oklahoma. The Advisory Council for the Elimination of Tuberculosis (ACET) has identified three priority strategies for controlling and preventing TB that include:(1) identify and fully treat persons who have active TB disease; (2) locate and screen persons who are contacts to TB cases to determine if they are infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis or have active TB and providing appropriate treatment; and (3) target test populations at high-risk for infection and disease to detect infected persons and provide TB infection therapy when appropriate to prevent progression to active TB.
The Oklahoma Tuberculosis Program provides programmatic oversight, clinical consultations, training and education for tuberculosis prevention and control activities throughout Oklahoma. Oklahoma local county health departments provide TB services (screening, testing, treatment, and case management, etc.) to residents and visitors of all 77 counties in Oklahoma. In addition, the TB Program is committed to identifying, screening, testing, and treating individuals at high risk for exposure to TB, high risk for progression to active TB disease if exposed, and populations experiencing health disparities and disproportionately affected by TB disease and TB infection. The TB Program is committed to progressing toward the national targets set forth in the National TB Indicators Project (NTIP) and developing evaluation strategies to address unmet targets.
Oklahoma TB Program is applying for funding under the Tuberculosis Elimination and Laboratory Cooperative Agreement, CDC-RFA -PS-25-0003, to assist with addressing strategies and implementing activities identified in this application. Funding for Prevention and Control (P&C), Human Resource and Development (HRD), and Laboratory Strengthening will allow for continued activities to reach short-term and intermediate outcomes outlined in the funding announcement and help decrease TB incidence in Oklahoma advancing to the TB elimination goal.
