Tuberculosis Elimination and Laboratory Cooperative Agreement - The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), Tuberculosis and Hansen’s Disease Unit (TB Unit) provides services in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s TB Elimination and Laboratory Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) logic model and the National TB Indicators Project. The purpose of the CoAg is to support the TB Unit’s comprehensive efforts to prevent, control, and eliminate TB in Texas. Funds will enhance TB prevention and control activities; develop human resources through training and education; and strengthen laboratory capacity to ensure timely, reliable TB laboratory services are available to TB programs throughout Texas. The area to be served is the State of Texas. The target population includes the people of Texas with suspected or confirmed TB disease, as well as persons or groups at risk of developing TB disease once infected. This includes recent contacts to infectious TB cases, Class B immigrants, persons with HIV and others who are immunosuppressed, and persons residing in congregate settings. The mission of DSHS is to ensure the health and well-being of Texans. This includes identifying and treating persons with TB. The expected outcome of services supported by the CoAg includes surveillance activities to ensure prompt reporting of people with suspected or confirmed TB disease to DSHS; fast turn-around-time of laboratory results for prompt diagnosis and treatment; timely evaluation and completion of treatment for people diagnosed with TB; maintain a highly trained and competent TB workforce; and provide appropriate evaluation and treatment of high-risk populations.
