Utah TB Prevention and Control Project - The Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) TB Control Program provides programmatic oversight, clinical support, medical consultations, epidemiological support, and educational resources to address tuberculosis in the state of Utah. The DHHS TB Control Program contracts with 12 local health departments throughout the state to provide TB services including screening, testing, treatment, and case management to residents of and visitors to 29 counties in Utah. The mission of the DHHS TB Control Program is to eliminate TB in Utah. Elimination of TB in Utah is predicated on the implementation of three priority strategies for controlling and preventing TB, as recommended by the Advisory Council for the Elimination of Tuberculosis (ACET) that include: (1) identifying and fully treating persons who have active TB disease; (2) finding and screening persons who are contacts to active TB cases and providing treatment when appropriate; and (3) targeting populations at high-risk for infection and disease to detect infected persons and provide latent TB infection (LTBI) therapy when appropriate to prevent progression to active TB. Additionally, the DHHS TB Control Program focuses on developing strong partnerships, providing education to the community, and maintaining a comprehensive state-wide surveillance and reporting system. The DHHS TB Control Program is committed to progressing toward the national targets set forth in the National TB Indicators Project and strives to develop evaluation strategies to address indicators not being met. In addition, the DHHS TB Control Program is committed to identifying, screening, testing, and treating individuals at high risk for exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, individuals at high risk for progression to active TB disease if exposed, and populations experiencing health disparities who are disproportionately affected by TB disease and LTBI. The DHHS TB Control Program is applying for funding under the Tuberculosis Elimination and Laboratory Cooperative Agreement CDC-RFA-PS-25-0003 to address the strategies and implement the activities identified in this application. Funding for Prevention and Control, Human Resource Development, and Laboratory Strengthening will allow for continued and new activities that will be measured by progress towards short-term and intermediate outcomes outlined in the funding announcement. Progress toward these short-term and intermediate outcomes will lead to a decrease in TB incidence overall and among those populations at higher risk who are disproportionately affected by TB disease and TB infection.
