Nevada Tuberculosis Prevention and Elimination and Laboratory Program - The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) Office of State Epidemiology (OSE) Tuberculosis (TB) program provides oversight to the Nevada (NV) TB Program. The DPBH TB program works closely with the NV TB Program’s integral partners: four local health jurisdictions, the DPBH Community Health Services Program, and the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory. The NV TB Program promotes partnerships with all agencies, organizations and health professionals interested in advancing Nevada’s progress toward improving our TB prevention and elimination measures. The NV TB Program goals are to reduce morbidity and mortality and ultimately eliminate TB in the residents and visitors of Nevada through improved efforts in surveillance, treatment, and laboratory services. To attain this goal, the DPBH TB program has identified four principal outcomes and their strategies, briefly described here: 1) Improved diagnosis and treatment of individuals with TB disease. Earlier identification, increased provider knowledge and use of best practices, and effective case management will decrease TB morbidity and mortality in Nevada. 2) Increased reporting, diagnosis, and treatment of individuals with latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Contacts to active TB cases, newly arriving immigrants and refugees, and populations identified at greater risk of TB infection will be rapidly evaluated and encouraged to complete LTBI treatment. Engaging private providers in the identification, reporting, and treatment of LTBI decreases the community burden of TB disease. 3) Improved epidemiologic surveillance. Continued practices and technologies to assure the quality of data entered and transmitted for local, state, and federal purposes. 4) Ensuring high quality and rapid TB laboratory services. Improving specimen processing times, communicating testing results effectively, and utilizing expanded molecular techniques facilitates appropriate treatment and reduces the public health threat of infectious M. tuberculosis transmission. The DPBH TB program is applying for funding through the Tuberculosis Elimination and Laboratory Cooperative Agreement Opportunity CDC-RFA-PS25-0003 to assist in achieving these outcomes. The combined DPBH TB program and its integral NV TB Program partners have extensive programmatic and laboratory knowledge, up-to-date epidemiologic surveillance methods and data management systems, and a long history of therapeutic and preventative care to individuals throughout Nevada communities. The DPBH TB program feels these strengths enable efficient and effective completion of the proposed plan for the period of performance, January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2029.
