PHFE CDPH ELC 2024-2029 - California has a diverse population of over 38‐million people, which includes representation from multiple race and ethnicity groups, a wide range of income levels, and a variety of lifestyles and living conditions. As such, this contributes to the large burden of infectious disease and associated health outcomes noticeable within the state. In recent years, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) responded to emerging and rapidly infectious diseases, large and multistate outbreaks, and an increased number of sexually‐transmitted diseases and food‐borne illnesses. Recent data indicate that California’s population is expected to continue to rise in future years and emerging and non‐emerging infectious disease threats are also expected to increase as a result, especially over this next five year ELC project period that will be addressed.
