Georgia Emerging Infections Program Project Abstract Summary
The objective of CDC's Emerging Infections Program (EIP) and the goal of the Georgia (GA) EIP application is to perform active, population-based surveillance and related studies that will improve the capacity to prevent, control, and monitor the public health impact of established and emerging infectious diseases. Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) along with Emory University and other partners, will conduct surveillance and special studies for the following categories of infections: enteric (FoodNet), invasive bacterial (ABCs), fungal (candidemia, mold, endemic mycoses), respiratory viral infections (influenza, RSV, COVID-19), mpox and healthcare-associated infections. The GA EIP proposal also includes core infrastructure activities including training, enhancements in information technology, informatics, biostatistics, and leadership/cross-cutting activities. The outcomes will include improved surveillance and response capacity, improved capacity to recognize, control, and prevent infectious disease outbreaks, and decreased burden and severity of infectious diseases.
