Disseminating Antibiotic Stewardship Resources in Dentistry - The Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention Foundation, Inc. (OSAP), is a nonprofit organization with more than three decades of history and experience working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on epidemics and pandemics. OSAP is a recognized leader and advocate for infection prevention and control compliance, as well as patient and personnel safety in oral healthcare. OSAP’s community is diverse and includes interdisciplinary clinicians, educators, trainers, ancillary healthcare workers, third-party payors, and the dental industry. OSAP is uniquely positioned to increase awareness of the importance of the integration of oral health into overall health among both providers and patients. OSAP proposes two strategies targeted to the oral healthcare community to inform and support CDC in developing and adapting guidance, tools and best practices, while training key segments of said community to impact 27 million or more people in the United States who currently visit the dentist but not a physician. These strategies will better position the importance of oral health within healthcare to successfully manage and address identified public health threats of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases to improve public health and clinical outcomes.
