Americares Partnership for Dissemination of CDC Infectious Disease Guidelines and Community Messaging - As single day records for COVID-19 infection and deaths are occurring in the U.S. and globally, Americares is using every resource to fight the pandemic – from critical protective supplies to education, training and other support for our staff and partners here at home and around the world. We focus on frontline health workers: keeping them safe so they can continue to do life-saving work for patients with COVID-19 and those patients in need of other essential health services and ongoing care for life-threatening conditions. Local clinics, hospitals, health care networks must remain aware of evolving healthcare worker safety and security issues, as well as latest guidelines addressing clinical management, prevention and control strategies and messaging for emerging health threats – particularly in a context as fluid and unprecedented as the current COVID-19 pandemic. Equally important is for these materials to be tempered to better address the needs of the audiences, communities or populations for which they are intended. Given the current trends in vaccine hesitancy, it is imperative that we understand the potential barriers and mistrust issues in order to effectively address them, as the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) guidance documents are made public. Through this project proposal Americares aims to work with the CDC as an “Approved but Unfunded” (ABU) partner. Americares proposes to embed all five program strategies supported by this cooperative agreement: 1) disseminate and adopt; 2) inform and adapt; 3) target and train; 4) integrate and extend, and; 5) evaluate and improve. We will build on our current capacity building trainings for healthcare professionals and responders at the frontlines of emergency responses through the proposed approaches. This project aims to implement activities centered in prevention and control of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. With additional support through this cooperative agreement with the CDC, we expect to increase distribution of existing CDC guidance to health care workers and increase the number of those who are trained, understand, and apply best practices for the prevention and control of infectious diseases which should result in knowledge gained, corresponding with the NOFO’s short and intermediate-term outcomes 1 and 2. In order to effectively attain increased adoption of best practice guidance for infectious disease protection across a range of actors (i.e. leadership, workers and, community members) it is necessary to ascertain that materials are adapted to institutional and cultural practices observed by the target audience. Thus, as with past programmatic and capacity building development requests by partners, Americares will approach and expand its partners and key healthcare networks to inform new guidance and continue to nurture those networks to dynamically inform and provide feedback to content development teams and share recommendations with CDC as per this cooperative agreement, corresponding with the NOFO’s short and intermediate-term outcomes 3 and 4.
