The purpose of ELC funding is to build, enhance, and sustain epidemiology, laboratory, and health information systems capacity in Idaho. ELC funding maintains, strengthens, and integrates Idaho’s capacity for detecting and responding to infectious disease and other public health threats. Idaho has received ELC funding since 2001. Funding requested in this application will support the first year of activities in a new five-year project period. Activities will be funded in cross-cutting categories to build and maintain capacity in epidemiology, laboratory, leadership, and health information systems; program-specific categories including healthcare-associated infections, antibiotic resistance, vaccine-preventable disease, and foodborne, waterborne, and environmental disease; and the disease-specific categories of viral vector-borne disease, influenza, and Legionnaire's disease. The application also includes a request for funding to manage a significant public health emergency; this request will facilitate the timely distribution of future funds, should the need arise, but initially will remain unfunded.
