The purpose of this proposal is to support the Louisiana Office of Public Health (LOPH) Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Laboratory sections through the ELC cooperate agreement, and to strengthen epidemiology and laboratory capacity; improve information systems; improve and implement control strategies; and enhance collaboration among epidemiology, laboratory and information systems within public health.
The main epidemiologic objectives are surveillance of known infectious diseases, detection of new and emerging infectious diseases, and outbreak investigation and response to public health threats. Funding is requested to support cross-cutting and flexible epidemiology, laboratory, and health information systems capacity, 3 infectious disease programs as well as 8 infectious disease-area specific projects. Disease specific project proposals in this application include the following:
• Parasitic Diseases
• Enhanced Vaccine-Preventable Disease
• Legionnaires’ Disease Prevention
• Non-Influenza Respiratory Diseases
• Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project (GISP)
