Category C: Community-based Organizations - NCFH will provide capacity building assistance (CBA) to a national network of CBOs that address health disparities and inequities among RIM communities, especially those in rural areas. CBOs are critical in the public health infrastructure for this community due to their trusted relationships in the community, ability to address language barriers and understanding of cultural norms, and vast multisector networks. This project aims to improve the overall performance of the public health system by strengthening CBOs’ skills and abilities to develop and maintain multisector partnerships, improve community engagement, and enhance language access and cultural competency programs, in turn improving their effectiveness to address social determinants of health and improve health outcomes. NCFH will collaborate with subject matter experts, people with lived experience, and federal partners to provide national trainings, facilitate learning collaboratives, and develop resources and tools for the CBO network. Outcomes of these activities include: • Increased use of CBA services and products by CBOs • Enhanced skill and ability to support decision-making toward applying recommended processes, policies, programs, and practices within the strategic areas (Strategic Areas 4 & 5) All CBA services will be guided by an Advisory Council of 5-6 individuals who work in a RIM-serving organizations or who represent a RIM community member residing in a rural area. The council will provide feedback on planned activities including topics and content, share emerging issues, review evaluation results, and provide guidance on continuous improvement.
