Foster Sustainable and Effective Systems to Strengthen the Delivery of Quality TB Services in Resource Limited settings by supporting to find, cure, and prevent TB in these settings. - Overall Background International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) founded in 1920 is the world’s first global health organization and a scientific leader in ending TB, fighting the tobacco industry and solving the most pressing public health challenges in resource limited settings. It develops the best approaches and treatments for these conditions. The Union has continued to evolve to meet new challenges in TB, lung health, and the changing dynamics of global health. The Union has implemented diverse, innovative and successful programs that include three previous awards from CDC in 2004, 2009 and 2014. Overall Approach and Purpose The Union aims to implement the proposed activity components utilizing its unique position as a global convener with international, regional and local networks. All proposed key activities are in line with the CDC’s strategic areas of FIND, CURE, PREVENT and SUSTAIN. The following activity components are proposed for this new project: • Component 1: Production and dissemination of scientific publications and technical guides • Component 2: Global dissemination of best practices of TB Care • Component 3: Child Tuberculosis Centre for Excellence • Component 4: Comprehensive Household Approach to TB Care • Component 5: Strengthening NTP recording and reporting-TBData4Action • Component 6: Audit Main Outcomes in Year 1 of the New Project • Component 1: Updating “Management of Tuberculosis: A Guide to the Essentials of Good Clinical Practice (2010)”, translation into French and Spanish and its distribution; • Component 2: Support participation of deserving delegates, and development of online applications, including videos, to ensure open access to persons unable to attend the Conference, including TBScience; • Component 3: Support Uganda and Zimbabwe to strengthen child and adolescent TB services and increase case detection, and treatment success among < 15 years; • Component 4: Initiate a pilot of this approach in Uganda and Zimbabwe, strengthen household contact management, and offer TB preventive therapy to eligible persons; and • Component 5: Draw from lessons learned on local use of TB data in Zimbabwe, and introduce data-driven support supervision and TBData4Action in Uganda to strengthen both TB patient and program management. Collaborations The Union works with national TB programs to maximize sustainability and invest in national health systems. The Union has also strong working relationships with various TB organizations, including CDC, USAID missions, WHO, the Global Fund, and Stop TB Partnership, and civil society organizations. Target Populations Health managers and officials, health professionals working at different levels of health services, people, including girls, women, children and adolescent, and people living with HIV with TB will be the target population of this project. Evaluation and Performance Measurement Strategy The Union will collaborate with CDC to develop this plan in the first 6 months of the award. Estimated number of persons to be served in the 1st year of this award is 30,000.
