Abstract:Supporting Tribal Public Health Capacity in Coronavirus Preparedness and Response within the Pueblo of Nambe to service our 600 community members, in countermeasures and mitigation. The overarching aim of this project is to prevent, prepare for, and respond to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Pueblo of Nambe. Our community experiences a high burden of health issues, which leave our members more vulnerable to COVID-19, including a high burden of chronic illness and infectious disease such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, asthma, influenza and pneumonia. This project will strengthen our community capacity and support the expansion of critical public health activities to rapidly mobilize and respond to COVID-19 at the tribal level. Emergency funding will be utilized to conduct public health activities in the following areas in response to COVID-19: Countermeasures and mitigation. Established/enhanced protocol for a healthy water supply to contribute to the quarantine and isolation of tribal community members including those populations at higher risk (i.e., elders, persons with chronic illness, etc.). Established wrap around services for individuals under isolation or quarantine orders (i.e., clean drinking water, clean water to sanitizer, and clean). Reestablish healthy potable water source. The Pueblo of Nambe owns and operates a public water system on the Nambe Pueblo Indian Reservation, in Santa Fe County, New Mexico. The public water system is a supplier of domestic water and provides water for human consumption to approximately 600 year-round residents, through roughly 202 service connections. The only ground source of raw water from the aquifer has elevated levels of contaminants and heavy metals, including arsenic and uranium, which pose a public health risk if not properly treated. The Pueblo?s goal is to maintain the highest quality of water by ensuring a safe and reliable source to the comm
unity. With the implementation and replacement of equipment and infrastructure, this will contribute to every effort made to keep everyone safe from the COVID-19 virus, and to manage optimally an essential resource we already have. The Pueblo of Nambe also recognizes the value of a team-based approach towards public health endeavors that aim to protect the health and wellness of our people. Therefore, this project will also reinforce partnerships among our tribal programs, and enhance collaboration with external partners at State Departments of Health, Indian Health Service, the Albuquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center, and the CDC to assure the success of our COVID-19 response effort. This is response to component A on page 8 of the Notice Of Funding Opportunity, Supporting Tribal Public Health Capacity in Coronavirus Preparedness and Response.
