The Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) us a declared public health emergency as declared by National, State, and local levels. Arctic Slope Native Association (ASNA) is the sole Hospital and provider of licensed medical services in a region the size of the state of Minnesota. A tribal health organization selected by the federally recognized tribes of the region to perform these services via resolution, ASNA ability to respond to this crisis has meant a departure from typical care models due to the extremely limited number of intensive care beds in the state. As all of the communities in the region are only accessible via air and with the bankruptcy of the sole air carrier to travel to all but one of our communities, the need to decentralized services is also desired. To achieve these goals, ASNA is seeking to expand its laboratory capacity to test for COVID-19 from the current model of two ID Now machines and airfreighting all the confirmatory tests to Anchorage to being able to generate results locally. Additionally we are seeking to improve our ability to triage patients in our outlying communities by providing the clinics with X-ray, increase our information technology capability via the purchase of servers, improve internal communication via the purchase of a nurse call system and mobile communicators and improve our ability to train our staff through a simulation lab.
