Igiugig Village COVID 19 Preparedness and Response Program - Igiugig Village is located in southwestern Alaska, on the south bank of the mouth of the Kvichak River and Lake Iliamna. Igiugig Village is a small community with a population of 69 people, mainly Yup'ik Eskimos, Aleuts, and Athabascan Indians. Igiugig is a community with strong educational values, elder respect, and people with strong wills. Located on the sloping banks of the Kvichak River, Igiugig is a prime site for subsistence fishing and hunting, tourism, and travel. Cultural values are engraved in the minds of the young generations, it is important to us that our history, our dances and stories, our traditions, are learned and passed down, for the next wave of descendants.Funds will be used construction necessary to complete an adequate and safe space to act as a headquarters, storage and workspace for tasks related to COVID 19. The funds will be used for apart-time staff member, to construct pandemic storage space and emergency food storage as part of the Igiugig Community Center to ensure pandemic preparedness, response, and food security in the remote village, for printing of educational materials and for supplies.
