The overarching aim of this project is to prevent, prepare for, and respond to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Pueblo of Santa Ana. Our community experiences a high burden of health issues, which leave our members more vulnerable to COVID-19, including a high burden of chronic illness and infectious disease such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, asthma, influenza, and pneumonia. This project will strengthen our community capacity and support the expansion of critical public health activities to rapidly mobilize and respond to COVID-19 at the tribal level. Emergency funding will be utilized to conduct public health activities in the following areas in response to COVID-19: 1) emergency operations and coordination; 2) health information technology; 3) surveillance and epidemiology; 4) laboratory capacity; 5) communications; 6) countermeasures and mitigation; 7) recovery activities; and 8) other preparedness and response activities to COVID-19. The Pueblo of Santa Ana also recognizes the value of a team-based approach towards public health endeavors that aim to protect the health and wellness of our people. Therefore, this project will also reinforce partnerships among our tribal programs, and enhance collaboration with external partners at State Departments of Health, Indian Health Service, the Albuquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center, and the CDC to assure the success of our COVID-19 response effort.
