Supporting Tribal Public Health Capacity in Coronavirus Preparedness and Response - 2020 - An Assessment on Supporting Tribal Public Health Capacity in Coronavius Preparedness and ResponseAroostook Micmac Council (Aroostook Band of Micmacs) at Micmac Family Health Services, Presque Isle, ME Since the outbreak of the novel coronavius (COVID-19) pulmonary illness, more than 300,000 people have contracted the virus worldwide. This virus is rapidly spreading with human-to-human transmission despite imposed precautions. Aroostook Band of Micmacs is the most Northeasterly Federally Recognized Indian Tribe in the United Stated and is located in the most rural northern Maine; Aroostook County. Since our Tribal community has 1,486 members who live in a service area of 6,672 square miles within Aroostook County, we are aiming to be prepared and response to the COVID-19 for all of our Tribal members. Under preparation, we will be better prepared to administer necessary testing for the COVID-19 along with the proper procedures in responding to whether the test results are positive or negative for a potential pandemic within our Tribal community. Under response we will have our procedures in place and to be able to communicate necessary information to our Tribal members. All preparation and response be within the Micmac culture, language, and traditional practices.
