Purpose
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR), Bureau for Public Health (state health department/SHD) will promote the use of surveillance strategies, evidence-informed interventions, and other data to track and prevent nonfatal and fatal overdoses statewide. These efforts will build on the work, expertise, and lessons learned from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC's) previous cooperative agreement, Overdose Data to Action (OD2A), to inform evidence-based prevention with a focus on opioids, stimulants, and emerging drug threats including changes in the illicit drug supply and a rise in polysubstance overdoses. Administration of this proposed work will be the responsibility of the West Virginia Violence and Injury Prevention Program (VIPP), which is housed within the Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health (OMCFH).
