Advancing Surveillance of Violent Deaths Using the New Jersey Violent Death Reporting System - The New Jersey Department of Health, Population Health Division, Center for Health Statistics, has established the New Jersey Violent Death Reporting System through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of the National Violent Death Reporting System. By establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships, the goal of this project is to link vital statistics, medical examiner, and law enforcement reports together into a single comprehensive source for surveillance data on violent deaths in New Jersey. This system will continue to be used to aid violence prevention and reduction efforts in the state, with the goals of creating a continuously improving violent death surveillance system that can disseminate data to partners and stakeholders and support the implementation of violence prevention plans to ultimately decrease the incidence of violent deaths. This project relates to the “Healthy People 2030” objectives of violence and injury prevention and reducing its consequences. The measures of effectiveness that are outlined in the Strategies and Activities are in alignment with the Strategic Priorities of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Division of Violence Prevention mission to “…provide leadership and build bridges across sectors to use data and conduct research to inform prevention activities.”
