The PA Department of Health (Pa DOH) will address the exacerbation of high risk COVID-19 exposure, infection, hospitalization, and mortality felt by vulnerable populations, including racial and ethnic minority groups and people living in rural communities. The Pa DOH will reduce the burden of COVID-19 among populations disproportionately affected and build infrastructure to appropriately respond to public health emergencies by way of a minority and disability organizations, and the PA Office of Rural health partnership. Pa DOH seeks to create a multi-pronged approach that leverages existing infrastructure to address COVID-19 related disparities and provide better access to services for our most vulnerable populations, including rural communities, racial and ethnic minorities, aging, and those with disabilities. Additionally, Pa DOH aims to enhance its core functions, such as workforce and policy development, through a health equity lens to support equitable access to services for those disproportionately affected populations.
