Drug-Free Community Grant for Elbert County, Georgia - The Elbert County School District in partnership with Elbert Partners for Health proposes to implement the Drug-Free ELBERT program. The purpose is to establish and strengthen collaboration among community stakeholders and organizations to address youth substance misuse in Elbert County, Georgia, and to reduce substance use among youth and, over time, reduce substance use among adults by addressing the factors in our community that increase the risk of substance use and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance use. This project will focus specifically on Elbert County, Georgia. Project activities include establishing key partnerships and committees, such as the DFC program coordinator, Youth Action Team (YAT), and Parent Advisory Committee, alongside providing strategic training sessions for coalition members. Efforts extend to community outreach through media platforms, engagement with local officials, and participation in Chamber of Commerce meetings. Furthermore, the initiative prioritizes education and advocacy on youth mental health, substance use prevention, and parental involvement. Strategies include implementing evidence-based curriculums, advocating for stricter regulations on vape sales, and promoting in-school treatment options for disciplinary issues. The collective goal is to foster a supportive environment for youth well-being and empower community stakeholders to enact positive change. Expected Outcomes: With a strong network of partners, proven success in past initiatives, and a dedicated commitment to enhancing community health, EPH is well-equipped to spearhead endeavors to reduce nicotine and THC/marijuana use among youth in Elbert County schools. The intended beneficiaries of the project are the youth in Elbert County schools, particularly those vulnerable to nicotine and THC/marijuana use. Additionally, parents, educators, community leaders, and stakeholders involved in the initiative will benefit from increased awareness, resources, and support to address youth substance use and mental health concerns effectively.
