Wyoming County Prevention Coalition - Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center is partnering with The Wyoming County Prevention Coalition to establish and strengthen collaborations to support the efforts of The Wyoming County Coalition in working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth, ages 12-18 in Wyoming County, West Virginia. The purpose of the program is to (1) Establish and strengthen collaboration among community stakeholders and organizations to address youth substance use by (A) Increasing community collaboration by 20% over the 5-year grant period as measured by the number of organizations partnering with the Wyoming County Prevention Coalition & (B) Sustaining the Wyoming County Prevention Coalition post grant-funding and (2) Reduce substance use among youth and, over time, reduce substance use among adults by (A) Reducing the percent of high schoolers in Wyoming County who have used tobacco and/or alcohol in the past 30-days from 5% baseline to 2% as indicated in the annual middle & high school survey & (B) Increasing the percentage of middle & high school students in Wyoming County who participate in prosocial after school activities as indicated in the annual student survey by five percent. Short-term outcomes include: improved knowledge regarding patterns of youth substance use, improved community knowledge of coalition efforts to address youth substance use, increased outreach to relevant sectors of the community to address youth substance use, increased capacity of local agencies and organizations to address youth substance use, increased intergovernmental cooperation, coordination, and collaboration to change the conditions that impact youth substance use. Intermediate outcomes include: reduced community factors that increase the risk of substance use, increased promotion of factors that minimize the risk of substance use, increased ease, ability, and opportunity for youth to access programs that prevent substance use & decreased ease, ability, and opportunity for youth to access substances. Long term outcomes include: established and strengthened collaboration among community stakeholders and organizations to address youth substance use & reduced substance use among youth, and over time, reduced substance use among adults.
