Barry-Eaton District Health Department: Limiting Overdose through Collaborative Actions and Data - Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD) is committed to using data to quickly drive action steps that reduce overdose morbidity and mortality in communities while addressing health disparities, with a primary focus on opioid, stimulant, and polysubstance use involving opioids and/or stimulants. This project will support and build infrastructure of overdose surveillance, harm reduction, and recovery from OUD and StUD. BEDHD will partner with behavioral health, health systems, community organizations, and public safety to improve linkage and retention in care, harm reduction resources, clinician and hospital system best practices, and overdose surveillance infrastructure. Through this funding opportunity, BEDHD and its partners will increase the number of navigators available in the community, increase access to harm reduction resources including syringe service programs, work with hospital systems and health care providers to increase the number of buprenorphine providers, and use data to inform future programs and activities. BEDHD and its partners will dedicate a portion of the activities to reduce disparities among groups who are disproportionately affected by OUD and StUD. Strategies implemented to reduce health disparities and improve health equity among those who use drugs will be continually monitored by evaluating performance measures and data dissemination to the Michigan Department of Health and Humans Services and community stakeholders. Ongoing data collection and evaluations will indicate the success of the implemented strategies and provide data-based evidence for future decision-making as the Barry-Eaton District Health Department continues to address substance use in the jurisdiction.
