PEER Coalition has identified community conditions that contribute to drug use/misuse, including poverty and cultural issues. The CARA-funded program will supplement current strategies and activities with evidence-based approaches specifically to change the culture and prevent opioid, methamphetamine, and prescription drug use among youth ages 12-18 in East Ramapo Central School District (ERCSD). This program also seeks to alleviate health disparities among Black (Haitian), Hispanic, and LGBTQ youth populations. Strategies and Activities: To achieve identified outcomes, PEER will utilize these strategies: 1. Educate the community about the risks associated with youth use/misuse. 2. Launch a Law Enforcement Campaign toward the prevention of the abuse of opioids, methamphetamines, and prescription medications for youth ages 12-18. 3. Promote coalition involvement among faith-based organizations, businesses, and healthcare providers that primarily serve targeted minority populations. 4. Encourage and facilitate collaboration with parents and youth from targeted populations. 5. Utilize ACE and DASH materials to educate, inform, and increase the capacity of stakeholders to recognize environmental risk factors related to local youth use/misuse.
