The county, nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Green Country, faces unique challenges due to its rural nature and diverse cultural makeup, including significant Cherokee and Muscogee (Creek) Nation populations. To combat this issue, Muskogee CAN has devised a comprehensive prevention plan focusing on various strategies. These strategies are youth-focused, include partnerships with local businesses to enforce age restrictions on substance sales, advocating for stricter enforcement of laws, and community-wide campaigns discouraging adults from providing substances to minors. The plan also emphasizes reshaping decision-making contexts through engaging town halls and forums involving youth, parents, and community members. Recognizing the need for accessibility and cultural sensitivity, Muskogee CAN ensures that prevention efforts cater to all segments of the community, especially those facing economic barriers and greater vulnerability to substance abuse. Continuous assessment and adaptation of strategies based on community feedback and evolving trends are integral to achieving sustainable progress over the five-year period.
