Taos Pueblo Awareness Coalition Team - Taos Pueblo is requesting a continuation of the Drug-Free Communities grant for year 2 of the Taos Pueblo Awareness Coalition Team project. Taos Pueblo is a federally recognized tribe working to address alcohol and prescription painkiller use among its youth population by using the strategic prevention framework (SPF) operationalized by multi-sector representatives from the community. Taos Pueblo is requesting $125,000 to implement the FY2020 12-month Strategic Action Plan with a special focus on building the capacity of youth in the community. The work of the coalition is informed by multiple data sources used in the evaluation of our activities such as the New Mexico Youth Risk & Resiliency Survey, the New Mexico Community Survey, and the comprehensive Taos Pueblo Community Health Assessment for insights into local conditions. For year two, the coalition is looking to build sustainability by providing more coalition members the opportunity to learn about the SPF, coalition building using resources from Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA), and to find more creative avenues of outreach as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic affecting year 1 activities. There are adjustments to the annual budget to compensate for one-time office supply purchases and travel to the Nation Coalition Academy which were included in the year 1 budget, and subsequently postponed. Taos Pueblo will continue with annual prevention, education, and enforcement activities using culturally respectful approaches to change community norms and availability of substances to our youth. Taos Pueblo will continue to match the federal grant amount and continue to seek other sources to ensure the sustainability of the Taos Pueblo Awareness Coalition Team in our community.
