Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition will increase community collaboration to decrease youth substance use by utilizing the Strategic Prevention Framework. - Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition will address the use of tobacco and alcohol by youth through comprehensive, complementary, and evidence-based strategies utilizing a cross sector collaboration to achieve changes in our community. The goals and objectives are: Goal 1: Increase community collaboration will be accomplished by: Objective 1 – Increase coalition and workgroup meeting attendance among existing members, key stakeholders, and new organizations or community members by 20% by September 29, 2028, as measured by the meeting and workgroup participation sign-in documents. Objective 2 - Increase community member prevention skill level and knowledge of prevention by 10% by September 29, 2028, noted by pre/post surveys for training opportunities offered through the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition. Goal Two: Reduce youth substance use: Objective 1 - Reduce past 30-day alcohol use in Jay County among students in 12th grade by three percentage points, from 27.5% (2023 baseline) to 24.5% (2028 target) by September 29, 2024, as measured by annual Indiana Youth Survey results. Objective 2 - Reduce past 30-day tobacco use in Jay County among students in grades 7th through 12th by three percentage points, from 13.5% (2023 baseline) to 10.5% (2028 target) by September 29, 2024, as measured by annual Indiana Youth Survey results. The Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition will increase community collaboration by involving coalition members in the Strategic Prevention Framework and prevention science training, CADCA’s National Leadership Forum, and data dissemination. Similarly, the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition will recruit additional coalition members through community and recruitment events, school clubs, parent groups, social media and other non-traditional means. Additionally, the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition aims to decrease youth substance use rates through a mix of environmental strategies (i.e., raising awareness and enforcement of Jay County’s social host law, passing a county-wide smoke free air policy, supporting and evaluating alternatives to suspension policies for tobacco and alcohol violations) and individual strategies (i.e., conversation starters for parents and other caring adults, implementing awareness activities like Red Ribbon Week, Alcohol Awareness Month, and National Prevention Week, as well as providing quarterly training opportunities for youth and adults in the community). All strategies and activities Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition will allow the Jay County Drug Prevention Coalition to create resilient communities within Jay County.
