Commonwealth of Kentucky Application for the CDC-RFA-IP-25-0007 Strengthening Vaccine-Preventable Disease Prevention and Response - The Kentucky Immunization Branch (KIB) is applying for funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to build upon previously laid foundations designed to strengthen and sustain vaccine coverage for all Kentuckians. The KIB has been successful in achieving past funding goals, yet important work remains to improve vaccination confidence, demand, and access across the lifespan. Although children’s access to vaccines have improved overall in Kentucky, challenges persist among adolescent and adult populations as evidenced by immunization rates that remain below the national average. Many of these challenges are fueled by the public’s lack of trust in vaccines which is further compounded by misinformation campaigns provided from a variety of readily available sources. Given these challenges, continued funding from the CDC is vital for the KIB in: 1. Improving immunization outreach and services throughout the state, 2. Meeting CDC vaccination requirements, and 3. Responding to emergencies and public health threats. To address these challenges, the Immunization Branch will incorporate a comprehensive, recommended approach focusing on several key areas: • Strengthening program infrastructure and management by maintaining a diverse and qualified staff, maintaining IIS capabilities, training VFC providers, and conducting effective fiscal management strategies. • Increasing vaccine access through the development and maintenance of a network of public and private vaccine providers to equitably administer VFC, Section 317, and state-funded vaccines to eligible populations. • Improving vaccination equity using data to identify populations of focus, implement strategies, and evaluate interventions. • Promoting vaccine confidence and demand through partnerships with trusted messengers, disseminating inclusive and accessible education materials and quelling mis/disinformation surrounding vaccines. • Enhancing data and evaluation by operating and maintaining data systems and improving data quality. • Strengthening program support for partners through ongoing engagement with our immunization coalition and providing education opportunities statewide. • Enhancing vaccination response and readiness by conducting VPD surveillance, outbreak planning and vaccine-related exercises.
