Strengthering Vaccine-Preventable Disease Prevention and Response - Vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) remain a significant public health concern, particularly among vulnerable populations such as young children and older adults. In Puerto Rico, immunization coverage faces persistent challenges due to healthcare access disparities, vaccine hesitancy, and limitations in data management. Current 2024 data indicate that vaccine coverage for children aged 24 months ranges from 68% to 92%, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to close immunization gaps. Additionally, Puerto Rico’s aging population, economic hardships, and healthcare provider shortages create further barriers to vaccine uptake among adults aged 65 and older. This project aims to enhance vaccine coverage and prevent outbreaks by strengthening immunization program management in Puerto Rico. Key strategies will include: • Training and technical assistance for vaccine providers to improve immunization practices and increase vaccine confidence. • Maintaining and optimizing the Immunization Information System (IIS) to enhance data accuracy, tracking, and real-time decision-making. • Conducting provider visits to assess vaccination practices, identify barriers, and implement targeted solutions. By improving vaccine access, strengthening provider capacity, addressing vaccine hesitancy, and leveraging data-driven approaches, this initiative will increase immunization rates, promote health equity, and reduce the risk of VPD outbreaks in Puerto Rico. These efforts will protect the island’s most vulnerable populations and contribute to the long-term resilience of the immunization infrastructure
